Tuscan Garden in process

If many of you remember, I was working on a Tuscan garden through the summer. Here is the result, so far. I still have a few things I want to add to it, like a little table and two chairs. I think they are called a bistro table. They are made out of metal, and they are small, just for a little Sunday breakfast or coffee and bagels. I'm still waiting to find a good deal on one. When you don't have lots of money, it's best to wait a while and a good deal is sure to come around. By the way, thank you to my sweet son Gilbert, who did the paint work for me. I love my yellow wall, it adds so much life to that area. I enjoy every time I walk out into my Tuscan garden.

Max is soon to be 7 mo

Hard to believe, my little cutie nephew Max is about to turn 7 months old. He is changing so much, he can now hold his bottle on his own. He is a lot more curious about things, he stares at things and tries to grab anything within his reach. He is still a cutie, and I am still in love with him like I've been since day one. It's such a joy being able to watch him for my sister, he keeps me company and adds meaning to my days. Keeps tia Patty busy yet relaxed.

It's still so hot!!

We are in the 3rd week of September and it is still awfully hot in San Diego! I was hoping the weather would cool of some so we could get a break from all this heat. But it seems we are actually headed for a Santana this week. We get those hear in Southern California. It's a few days of really hot days, sometimes with winds, but still Hot. It's not a good thing for the area I live in because we have had some very scary fires in the past. We are close to the beach, but east of us are the mountains and that's were the danger is. Well, I'm getting excited because it will be my birthday next week. I will be turning 42. I don't mind being that age. I've seen my children grow up........a little, they have yet a long road ahead, but so far it has been a pleasure being a mom to my 3 precious kids. So I will now start my planning on were I would like to go eat for my birthday. I'm thinking there is an Argentinian restaurant I've heard is really good, that is a choice. Another one was PF Chang, which is fancy Chinese food. I'm thinking the Argentinian food sounds good, they have the most delicious beef and some empanaditas that I love! All I can say is that I'm thankful to God for giving me so many blessings in my life, starting with my parents, my husband and my children. Thank You God for all you have given me.

Parents of the new century

This morning I'm dropping off my kids at school, and as I drive away I see the minivan of a lady I know, her kid and mine used to be friends when they were younger. But anyhow, what got my attention and shifted my thinking was the sight of the mom driving while the kid sat in the back seat talking on his Cell Phone. We are talking of a 10 year old! for Gods sakes, please let me in on the importance of a 10 year old chatting away on the phone that early in the morning.....while mom is doing her own thing driving him to school. Am I the only one out of the loop? when did it become the "norm" for a child to be on a cell phone? where did we lose ourselves to technology? when did parents stop talking to their kids on the drive to school? I feel so sad for that time that could mean so much in a child's life, those conversations with a parent, that later at my age I treasure so dearly, all those things my parents taught me and that now make so much sense. What will happen to these kids? who's parents didn't have the time or energy to engage in conversation with them. You know what? life has a way of coming around, and the tables will definitely turn at some point, usually it's when you are old and your kids don't have time or energy for you. You are the parent, you are the teacher......be careful what you are modeling to your child. Hey, it comes back around.
take care and take time to enjoy your children. Hear them out and be present in your conversations.

My Dad's oldest uncle

So this past weekend we were called on Sunday around 12:30 and were told that it was my uncle's birthday (my dads oldest uncle). we were to arrive at his home by 1:00. I don't know how we did it, but we were there, not at 1:00 but sometime close to 2:00. Not bad for such short notice. We were greeted by a delicious aroma coming from the kitchen. His sister in-law and family had come from Mexico and were preparing a delicious dish called Birria. This is lamb and goat cooked in a very delicious sauce. It becomes so tender, that it practically melts in your mouth, the meat is the softest ever. Truly one of my favorite dishes. Maybe because my grandfather used to make such a delicious Birria, so I have memories of getting together at his house with all the family, to enjoy his Birria. I wish I had asked him for the recipe because now that he is gone, no one does it as good as he did. That's a sad thing, how our elders pass on and take with them a lot of the recipes we cherish so dearly. We had a nice time with Uncle, but he seemed a little quiet and tired. He's up in age so I don't blame him for not being so chirpy. I believe he turned 90 something.

Strawberry filled Crepes

This weekend we made some delicious crepes, or as my husband calls them creepees. I had to learn to make them after we had them in San Francisco, many many years ago. They are the easiest thing to make. As you can tell, we love to eat, and my husband loves to take pictures of all we eat. They were Delicious!!!
